19th November 2004 - Sturt Bay - York Peninsula, South Australia

Many campsites are located on the York Peninsula, and many are controlled by the York Shire Council. Sturt Bay is located 15k South Warooka, Via Sturt Bay Road and is a small area close to a sandy shallow beach. No facilities are provided except for a toilet that has to be seen to be believed. On our return to Warooka, we complained to the council that there was no toilet paper provided. Fishing in the bay may provide the odd fish but otherwise, there is little to do. A good spot for a quiet time.

25th December 2004 - Balgowan - York Peninsula, South Australia

Balgowan is a seaside holiday resort that consists of mainly holiday shacks. There is only one store, which is run by Vivian and Peter who also look after the caravan park. Located on the Western side of York Peninsula Balgowan is approximately 15k from Maitland where banks, hotels and general shopping are available. The town beach comprises of thousands of tiny shells and is an excellent place for a swim on a hot day. A short walk through the Township Parkland Reserve is worthwhile and a trip along the coastal track to three other camping spots is also recommended (The Bamboos, Tiparra Rocks and The Gap). In the evening, the sunsets are a sight to be seen and we spent many nights enjoying the colours on the cliff face. For $15.00 a night, or $90.00 per week, we highly recommend a stopover at this location.
